Case Study: "Black Magick" - Bottle Design for a Conceptual Spiked Coffee Brand
Project Overview: This work study focused on developing a bottle design concept for Black Magick, a spiked coffee brand. Drawing on successful alcohol industry branding, the project integrated organic and natural design cues. The core visual identity features a hand-drawn logo and custom flavor typography, specifically considering direct screen printing application on the bottle.
The Concept & Challenge:
My thought process behind Black Magick was essentially, “what if we made a Four Loko for someone more refined”. The main challenge was making a bottle design that felt both sophisticated and intriguing, playing into the Black Magick name, and suggesting those natural roots – all while thinking about how it could actually be screen-printed.
Design Exploration & Approach:
The study focused on making a bottle design that visually tells the Black Magick story. Key things we considered:
Shape & Feel: Imagining a bottle that felt special and high-quality, maybe looking at different glass finishes to make it nice to touch.
Look & Feel: Creating a design with a hand-drawn logo that really gives the brand its own personality. We paired that with custom lettering for the flavors that's easy to read but still interesting and adds to the overall look.
Screen Printing: Really thinking about how the logo and text would look printed right on the bottle, playing with colors and layers to make it pop and feel good to the touch.
Potential Impact & Learnings:
The Black Magick bottle design idea shows a fresh way to brand spiked coffee by borrowing the visual punch of the alcohol world but with a nod to something more natural. This work study highlights how bottle design can:
